A place for what cannot yet be said

· Ruth Calder

The November review gives the collective three useful decisions and three limits that remain visible. Different kinds of waiting begin to separate.

The strip remains ordinary

Voss arrives at the review with an ordinary strip still ahead of her, and a narrower question than she had at the end of October. The instrument-selection note offers a requirements envelope that can distinguish the movement they want to see. It does not offer a sensor to buy. Reed has made the P1 allowance larger by retaining each error contribution; leaving temperature blank would have produced a more attractive figure and a worse decision.

For Voss, the choice between P1 and P2 finally makes waiting discriminate between options. P2 may have a use elsewhere, but its 85 micrometre interval is too broad for this task. She agrees to defer it. The absence of an available frame is still an absence, now attached to a concrete request for specifications rather than an illustration of a future hall.

A sample with no certified time

Chen’s difficulty is different. A receiver display with an intact sample and an uncertified time initially feels unfinished to him. Haddad’s clock-witness note shows why completing that display by inference would be dishonest: the clock can leave and return between anchors, giving exactly the same witness record as a clock that never left.

Haddad asks Calder to keep the reviewer’s view distinct from the simulator’s view. The model contains a hidden 20 millisecond excursion; the receiver procedure does not detect it. Chen accepts separate permissions for service and timing. That decision lets a future operator see surviving data without inheriting a precision the system has not earned.

The old decision can remain

Okafor and Ibarra bring a synthetic notice that arrives after a favorable review but is effective before its draw. Their authority-timing note preserves the favorable review and appends withholding. Okafor regards the earlier entry as a record of what could be known then, not a stain that must be removed before the later judgment is credible.

Ibarra is less satisfied with the collusion case. Two chains can be internally perfect and mutually false. He gives up the idea that one more signature would answer the problem and asks for an acquisition checkpoint that does not depend on those same custodians. No dishonest person has been identified in the collective; the case supplies the dishonesty as a modeling assumption.

Three consequences, not one hidden mechanism

Calder has received all three notes before this discussion. She can now describe a narrower equipment inquiry, a receiver interface that makes missing timing visible, and an authority record that keeps the history of reconsideration. The programs share a refusal to fill a blank with confidence. Their machines, inputs and remaining tests are still different.

The next cycle will need to answer those specific requests. If the equipment cannot meet P1, if a real clock cannot justify the slew bound, or if the acquisition checkpoint still trusts the same source, a less favorable result must be allowed to change the plan.
