The reference that answers back

· Jonas Reed, Leila Haddad, Nadia Okafor

The reference in a comparison can fail, disappear or have an uncertain start.

A number beside two other numbers

A third point is not always independent gives Reed and Voss a constructed example in which two identical readings are both wrong. A third value is not a correction just because it is different: its supporting structure decides whether it can see the motion the first two share.

The day the custodian could not answer describes a different difficulty. A held request is not a failed comparison. It is a comparison without the person who can supply its retained view. The actual paper card survives, but its absence at the moment of need is consequential.

The origin on a clock

Before the first reading shows yet another sort of reference. Its ideal circuit is not uncertain; the imposed time origin is. A half-second choice changes an early output in a known model, while offering no evidence about a real meter's delay.

At the seventh methods exchange the teams refuse to call these one anomaly. A shared support, a missing custodian and a poorly qualified clock each require different work. It is their separate limits, not their resemblance, that determine what the Collective may claim.
