What leaves with the instrument

· Jonas Reed, Leila Haddad, Nadia Okafor

The end of a loan leaves a more exact bench question, while two software studies make their remaining dependencies visible.

An empty place on the table

The comparator has gone back in its case. What remains at Meridian is a log in which two readings agree while the thing they observe is being moved. The last hour of the loan does not make the borrowed instrument less useful. It gives its usefulness a boundary: it can follow this target without certifying that the target supplies an independent reference.

A tether-material measurement eventually needs to say how much a strip changes. A local agreement is only one part of that sentence. The next bench specification must describe what can move besides the strip, and which observation would distinguish those movements. The short loan has ended before that specification is complete.

A question that can be asked twice

Lumen’s reply now carries an authentication tag and answers particular active values. A reply to this question makes the distinction executable: an authentic message for a different question is still unusable. Yet after the verifier resets and asks its old question again, an old answer passes. The word fresh cannot do the work of keeping a history.

Aletheia finds another history inside its inputs. The order in the signal shows an additive model giving the same contrast as an interaction model because the readings were taken at different times. Reversing the order helps diagnose the specified drift. Pairing the orders cancels one drift law and leaves another.

Keep the differences useful

At the January 9 methods exchange the teams retain three different next actions: specify a physical reference geometry, preserve a digital question’s non-reuse, and make acquisition time visible. These are useful parallels without evidence of one mechanism. Each action must still earn its value in the machine it is meant to serve.
