Research note / Cycle 011

The first hour on the table

· Jonas Reed, Mara Voss

The complete KIS-61 assembly arrives; an unloaded readout changes by 11 micrometres before the bench has an independent stationary reference.

The assembly enters custody

The surrogate-strip bench is intended to distinguish extension in a strip from movement in its grips and frame. On December 21, Reed and Voss collect the complete KIS-61 head, KB-2 bracket and portable workshop fixture described in the reservation note. This is the new whole-assembly agreement; the earlier declined offer remains closed.

On December 22 the assembly is installed on a separate intake table, retaining its original mounting rather than transferring to MRC-frame-01. Identifiers match the offered configuration. With power off, Reed checks cable seating and free travel after removing transport restraints. No strip or force system is attached. Voss authorizes unloaded power-on observation only.

A display moves while no travel is commanded

The untared head display reads 0 micrometres at power-on, 9 after ten minutes, 11 after thirty and 11 after sixty. No stage travel is commanded after setup and no display tare is applied during this hour. These are displayed readings from a commissioning log, not a corrected or calibrated displacement measurement.

There is no separately observed stationary-reference channel. The 11 micrometre change could include head or electronic drift, motion in the fixture, or environmental effects. The log does not distinguish them. The final repeated value records this hour; it establishes no subsequent stability or cause.

Custody changes; the run gate stays closed

The return procedure still requires raw gauge and stationary-reference readings. Its 6 micrometre allowance cannot be applied to an unreferenced power-on display change as though this were an outward-and-return strip test. The 25 micrometre displacement budget and 1000 micrometre sampled grid also remain intact.

The assembly is now present and the intake inspection is complete. Independent reference custody, post-transport coverage, environmental bounds and full-range checks remain open. Acceptance and loaded-strip runs stay withheld. The next task is a separately originated stationary comparison, not a display adjustment that erases the first hour.
